In the fields of furniture manufacturing and interior decoration, particle board is popular due to its affordability and stable performance. This article will systematically introduce the characteristics, production process, application scenarios, and purchasing tips of particle board, helping you make a more informed choice.
1. What is particle board?
Particle board, also known as chipboard, is an artificial board made from wood or non-wood plant fibers (such as straw, bagasse, etc.) as raw materials, which are crushed, dried, glued, and hot-pressed into shape. Its internal structure consists of small wood chips or fiber particles, bonded together by adhesives, and the surface is usually covered with a decorative layer (such as melamine veneer) to enhance aesthetics and durability.
2. The production process of particle board
Raw material processing: Wood or plant fibers are sliced and crushed into small particles.
Drying: Control the moisture content of the raw materials to ensure adequate penetration of the adhesive.
Gluing: Add adhesives such as urea-formaldehyde resin (UF), phenol-formaldehyde resin (PF), or environmentally friendly MDI glue.
Hot pressing: Press into shape under high temperature and pressure to form a stable structure.
Post-processing: Cutting, sanding, or veneering (such as melamine paper, PVC, etc.).
3. Advantages and disadvantages of particle board
Advantages
Affordable: High raw material utilization rate and low production cost, suitable for budget-conscious consumers.
Good stability: Uniform structure, not easy to deform or crack, suitable for making cabinets, shelves, etc.
Easy to process: Can be sawed, drilled, and edged, suitable for large-scale industrial production.
Disadvantages
General moisture resistance: Swells easily when exposed to water, not suitable for humid environments (such as bathrooms, kitchen sink areas).
Weak nail holding power: Repeated disassembly may cause screws to loosen, requiring special hardware.
Environmental concerns for low-end products: Poor quality adhesives may release large amounts of formaldehyde, so it is important to choose products with environmental certification.
4. Application scenarios of particle board
Custom furniture: Wardrobes, bookshelves, cabinet bodies (need to be paired with moisture-proof treatment).
Interior decoration: Background wall base, ceiling keel filling.
Office furniture: Desktop, partitions (used after covering with wear-resistant veneer).
Packaging materials: Lightweight shelves, logistics pallets (low-cost disposable use).
5. Purchasing considerations for particle board
Observe the structure: High-quality particle board has uniform particles, no voids, and tight edges without shedding.
Moisture treatment: When used in humid areas, choose moisture-resistant particle board.
6. Particle board produced by Zurkt Group
Equipment advantages:
① The production line is equipped with a domestic single-screen area of 26 square meters rectangular vibrating screen, significantly improving sorting efficiency and quality, while also equipped with a new type of quick pneumatic fire switch valve, enhancing the fire safety of the production line.
② The multi-layer line process layout places the waste board blank storage bin in front of the board loading machine, combined with a telescopic high-speed belt conveyor and a quick-adjust unidirectional overrunning clutch, which can recycle waste on the board blank line and the board loading machine, helping to achieve clean production.
③ The domestic face-pressing 4.5Mpa hot press unit hydraulic system is optimized in the multi-layer line design, significantly reducing the installed capacity of the hydraulic system while achieving rapid pressure rise of the hot press, effectively reducing the thickness of the pre-curing layer, lowering raw material consumption, and also contributing to energy saving; the system has a small oil temperature rise during operation and is reliable.
Common specifications:
2440mm*1220mm (four by eight feet), thickness can be made from 6.0MM to 30MM, etc. Other specifications and thicknesses of particle board can also be customized.
With its economy and practicality, particle board has become an indispensable material in modern home furnishing. As long as you choose qualified products and use them reasonably, it can fully meet environmental and functional needs. Next time you purchase board materials, consider your actual needs, weigh the pros and cons, and find a suitable solution!
