Plywood: The "strong player" among home decoration materials, do you really understand it?

Release time:

Plywood, with its stability, ease of processing, and high cost-performance ratio, remains a popular choice in the renovation market. As long as you choose the right quality, it can definitely become the "strong player" in your home decoration!

When renovating or customizing furniture, the choice of board material is often a headache. Faced with a dazzling array of products on the market, how can one select a board that is both environmentally friendly and durable? Today, we will delve into a classic and practical board material - blockboard, to see if it meets your needs.

  1. What is blockboard?

Blockboard is a type of engineered wood made with solid wood strips as the core material, covered on both sides with veneer or plywood. Its structure is similar to a "sandwich":

Surface layer: Usually made of high-quality veneer (such as poplar, eucalyptus, birch, etc.), providing a smooth surface for finishing.

Core layer: Made from natural wood (such as cedar, pine, etc.) that has been dried and spliced, directly affecting the stability and load-bearing capacity of the board.

Due to its core material being solid wood strips, blockboard retains some characteristics of natural wood while being less prone to deformation than pure solid wood boards, offering better cost performance.

  2. Advantages of blockboard

  1. Strong stability, not easy to deform

Compared to pure solid wood boards, blockboard has better bending and compression resistance due to its cross-laminated wood strip structure, making it less likely to crack or deform with changes in temperature and humidity, suitable for furniture manufacturing.

  2. Strong nail-holding power, easy to process

The solid wood core of blockboard gives it better nail-holding power than MDF and particleboard, making it suitable for furniture that requires frequent installation of hardware (such as bookshelves, wardrobes, etc.). It is also less likely to splinter during cutting and drilling on-site, making construction more convenient.

  3. Good environmental performance (depends on glue)

The amount of glue used in blockboard is less than that in particleboard and MDF, and the formaldehyde emission can be controlled at a lower level.

  4. Wide range of applications

Furniture manufacturing: wardrobes, bookshelves, bed frames, and other load-bearing structures

Interior decoration: door frames, background wall base, ceiling keel

Custom furniture: cabinets, countertop bases (need to be waterproofed)

  3. Limitations of blockboard

  1. Sensitive to moisture, ordinary models are not suitable for bathrooms and kitchens

The core material of blockboard is solid wood strips, which may swell and deform if exposed to a humid environment for a long time. If used in kitchens and bathrooms, moisture-resistant types or waterproof treatments on the surface are required.

  2. Surface requires secondary processing

The exposed surface of blockboard is relatively rough and usually needs to be veneered, painted, or covered with PVC film to achieve an aesthetic effect, increasing construction costs.

  3. Quality varies

There is a significant price difference in blockboard on the market, and inferior products may use recycled wood for splicing or excessive glue, affecting environmental performance and durability.

  4. How to choose high-quality blockboard?

Check the core material: High-quality core materials should use dried cedar or pine, with tightly arranged wood strips, no voids or decay.

Smell the odor: Environmentally friendly boards should have no pungent odor, while inferior boards may have a strong formaldehyde smell.

Check flatness: The surface of the board should be flat, with no warping or cracking.

  5. Blockboard produced by Zurkt Group

Zurkt Group's Uganda branch produces first-class blockboard.

  Material:

Core board: poplar, cedar, paulownia, pine, eucalyptus, linden, and mixed wood.

  Middle board: eucalyptus, pine, poplar.

  Surface bottom board: pine.

  Specifications: 1220*2440mm (4x8 feet), thicknesses of 15, 16, 17, 18mm.

  Patterns: Various patterns are produced.

With its stability, ease of processing, and high cost performance, blockboard remains a popular choice in the renovation market. As long as you choose the right quality, it can definitely become a "strong player" in your home decoration!
